India outsources their visa function to a for-profit company in San Francisco. They penalized me for being TOO
EARLY and gave me a via that started last week when they got the application instead of when I said I'd be arriving.
When I complained they said they warned against applying early (I never saw it in the fine print on their website; I only have a Ph.D. and that I should have waited or applied for 12 months. I am only stay for less than two months.
It seems to me that TRAVISA is misleading, trapping, and churning applicants in order to get extra fees for themselves and for their required FedEx.

Thu, September 3, 2009 - 12:20 PMever since i've been traveling to india in 2001 it has always been the policy to give the visa with the beginning date the same as time of application

Re: India Visa Outsourcing San Francisco COMPLAINT "TRavisa"
Thu, September 3, 2009 - 5:32 PMIf I recall correctly, the visa application form also mentions in fine print that the visa will be issued for the length of time requested effective the application date and not the actual arrival date. -

Re: India Visa Outsourcing San Francisco COMPLAINT "TRavisa"
Thu, September 3, 2009 - 6:26 PMI visiting over 60 countries, this is the first time
that I know of such a brain-dead policy, and since they are different from the rest of the world, they need do better than
misleading fine print on a website. The only other similar
case was Ukraine, which held on to your passport until a day before your departure if you didn't pay $100 for "expedited service" = "bribe me" -

Re: India Visa Outsourcing San Francisco COMPLAINT "TRavisa"
Sat, September 5, 2009 - 11:38 AMi encourage you to let go of notions of how things "should" be done if you are visiting india...or anywhere else
accept the system and you will have a lovely time
in fact, that is a great approach when traveling and in general...when you are visitor you are experiencing others' culture and ways.
expectations of your own standards to be in place in other domains will cause disappointments such as this one outlined in this thread
