There's no such thing as a free meal...or is there?

I posted this on my blog, but I thought it was an interesting video to share here.

After seeing a lot of painful stuff about all the misery that is life in India, and feeling helpless, hopeless and quite depressed by it, I found this unique, positively uplifting video that made me smile and cry at the same time.

I guess there is such a thing as a free meal...and it tastes good.

For all the innumerable things that are wrong with Indian democracy, politics, the corrupt police, poverty, globalization etc, at least there are a few things that are going well.

Btw, I heard that education for girls is now free upto the 12th grade, which should help empower them when they grow up.
Money was certainly the main reason for the educational struggles of women in my parents generation.

      :-)
I was waiting for Manu to jump on this one.

Its 150 million kids overall, which is like feeding half the population of the USA.

Kudos to the FFL/Hare Krishnas for the technology optimization and scaling it up.

If I can nitpick on something, it would be that the state govt insisted that one cook per school be of the Untouchable caste. I thought that was an excellent idea.
      - It gave employment to untouchables
      - It removed stigma of upper caste not touching anything cooked/touched by untouchables
      - It amused me that someone had such an excellent idea for forced equality

So, with FFL, I guess that idea gets lost ? Does FFL hire untouchables for cooking?

Anyways, the main thing is that kids are getting fed. Kudos.
